Nechako Valley Seondary School would like to acknowledge that we are residing on the Traditional Territory of the Saik’uz First Nation.
The Aboriginal Program staff at NVSS includes one Teacher for Carrier Language and Culture and three Aboriginal Education Support Workers. The Support positions include a Home School Coordinator and Aboriginal Education Support Workers.
Students are welcome to drop into the First Nations office located on the second floor.
Students are provided with a variety of opportunities including Carrier Language Studies, drum-making and carving, bannock days, traditional dances (incorporated into the Dance classes), as well as day trips to Saik’uz for hunting, trapping, medicine, story telling, leadership, health and other educational workshops.
We also provide assistance to female students in grade eleven who wish to attend the Minerva Learning to Lead Foundation Program and we coordinate with several post secondary institutions – including Indspire and the Bold Eagle Program.
Our Aboriginal Program also supports the First Nations Tutoring Program where students are invited to stay after school from 3:30-4:30 Mondays through Thursdays to work on homework.
